Singapore Youth Leading Edge Of Technology

Posted by jtsmyth8 on November 17, 2009

It’s no surprise. Singapore has always had the best when it comes to education. The fruits of this investment is showing more and more everyday with technological trends. New technology is prevalent in every school and teachers have made it a part of the education curriculum. Online resources for all, not only those exceeding expectation but also for those who are lagging behind.

Students test results show up in the projects they do and the examinations they write, the end result being a better individual prepared for the real world.

Take for example Damon Widjaja and Keith Ng. Both recent grads started their own company called Swoozh. Technology being the driving force of their ambition and a little social networking on Facebook. Their game called Fame has put their company on the map.

Singapore Expo 2008 (SITEX) Nov. 27 – 30

Posted by jtsmyth8 on October 28, 2008

I know it’s a bit early but I can’t help if I’m a gadget geek. It looks like there will be plenty of exhibitors this year. All of the tech magazines will be covering the event (CNet, PC Magazine, T3, Stuff, and more). What’s on tap? Phones, cameras, laptops, green technology, WiFi, plus new stuff in development. It will be a great chance to look and see (and possibly touch) a bunch of cool gear, free prizes (CBL Data Recovery). Plus there might be a few booth hotties there too. Best part: free admission. FREE. There’s no excuse not to go. If you have a few hours to kill on that weekend go check it out. For more info check out the site (Sitex 2008).

Looks like the show will have something for the ladies. Prizes, stylish bags, and tech for the ladies in the know. I’m guessing giving away a pink Western Digital hard drive and pink iPod nao doesn’t hurt either. Ladies.

A few new booths have been added. If you’re an extreme sport enthusiast perhaps adding a helmet mounted camera will help you document your adventures? Or perhaps fitness gadgets to monitor your workouts? Checkout the new sports link.

Hotties! I think white is my new favorite color. Skimpy white outfits and tall white boots! *grin There’s no better excuse to ask dumb questions to pretty girls giving out flyers. Plus you can take their picture without getting arrested!

Sony Ericsson debuts MD400 USB modem

Posted by jtsmyth8 on June 17, 2008

For people on the move keeping in touch via the internet with colleagues, clients, friends and family is a necessity. Now Sony Ericsson gives users the speed they need in a stylish way with its two new modems complete with HSPA technology. Users can receive 7.2Mb/s in download and up to 2.0Mb/s in upload speeds. “The MD400 and MD400g are high performance and stylish devices that enable you to have all your essentials at hand even when you are out of reach from broadband at home or in the office. The USBs are simple, quick to install and the multiple technologies guarantee internet access every time,” said Johan Tysklind, marketing director mobile computing at Sony Ericsson. “The combined M2 Memory Stick Micro™ and the microSD™ slot really makes these products stand out from the crowd and the MD400g even includes a GPS receiver.” (link)

Nano technology big in Singapore

Posted by jtsmyth8 on December 3, 2007

Some 40 local and foreign nano technology companies have set up shop here, dealing in anything from chemical engineering to cosmetics, a significant increase from just 10 companies three years ago.

‘The beauty about nanotech is that it is an enabling technology – it can be applied in any industry,’ said Spring group director of quality and standards Teo Nam Kuan.

Consumer demand for the industry is expected to grow to $1.05 trillion globally by 2010, said Minister of State for Trade and Industry S. Iswaran at the opening of the one-day Nanosymposium on Monday at the Biopolis.

But with such a wide array of applications, nano technology – the art of producing things on a molecular scale – unfortunately still lacks a unified set of standards and protocols, he noted.

The majority of nano technologies have yet to be commercialised, as uniform standards have yet to be established.

Interestingly, there are over 16,000 standards governing the production and use of anything from credit cards to DVDs and social enterprises, but none for nano technology. (story)

ASUS Singapore launches Eee PC

Posted by jtsmyth8 on November 29, 2007

The keyboard looks a little small but this would definitely be very handy when I want to quickly blog about something and I’m away from my computer. I could take this anywhere, and write anywhere. Just depends on the “low cost”.

In bringing people together and connecting us to an inexhaustible resource of information, resources, and services, nothing comes close to the power of the computer and the Internet in empowering the individual. Yet, these benefits were not universally available in the past, mainly because many people found computers to be highly complex and difficult to use. For its rugged build, and unrivalled ease of use, the ASUS Eee PC shatters all former barriers of access, putting the immense resource of the Internet within the reach of everyone. By mere point-and-click, it is changing the way we work, live and play.

Essentially, the Eee PC is a highly portable notebook computer with a difference, to make a difference: it is more compact than most notebooks; eschewing hard drive for flash storage, it is more lightweight and rugged; and industry-standard connectivity, it is also low-cost. (story)
