Edison Chen refuses to testify

Posted by jtsmyth8 on February 24, 2009

This is still dragging on? Ho Chun Sze (China) was charged once the scandal broke for illegally accessing Chen’s computer with the intent to distribute. Edison Chen is refusing to testify to protect the women already affected by the scandal. The judge in British Columbia, Canada raised the issue and pressed Chen for his reasoning. No legal threats or punishments were used to coerce Chen into testifying however its still within the judge’s power to charge Chen with contempt.

“Police say the images were illegally copied from the 28-year-old star’s computer.

Chen testified that after he saw the pictures circulating on the Internet with file names that matched those on his computer, he concluded the pictures were stolen. He originally thought the photos were taken from a stolen computer but then came to believe they were illegally downloaded while his computers were being serviced at a Hong Kong computer store.” (link)

Man jailed for upskirt photos

Posted by jtsmyth8 on November 5, 2008

Lim Eng Koon was caught taking upskirt videos of a 19 year old model distributing flyers. The incident occurred June 3 last year at the Singapore Convention center. The young woman claimed she felt someone touch her thigh and saw Koon with his cell phone under her skirt.

He was quickly detained after a short chase with the help of security officers at the scene. Although this is his first offense the judge should place a strict sentence on him as these type of crimes are increasingly becoming more common. (story)

Data saved by local recovery company

Posted by jtsmyth8 on May 29, 2008

Every time I read a story like this I turn on my external drive and back up my data. I’ve had 1 hard drive crash on me and that was enough. Stories like this just remind me to back up my important files. Email, photos, music, documents. You never know.

“Joe Nguyen was crushed when his home computer crashed for no apparent reason in 2005.

Desperate, he searched the Web for ideas to rescue his fond memories – all stored in the PC. He got one step closer when he found CBL Data Recovery Technologies, which specialises in retrieving data from mangled storage media.

‘But I was not confident that my files could be recovered,’ said the 36-year-old American citizen who has been living in Singapore for 15 years.

The service – at $700 – wasn’t cheap either.

Four days after dropping off his PC at CBL’s premises at Changi Business Park, he received a call to collect a DVD that contained all the information he thought he had lost – 1GB in total.” (story)

Chinese magazine exploits earthquake with sexy photos

Posted by jtsmyth8 on May 22, 2008

A Chinese magazine has been shut down for printing pictures of scantily-clad women posing in rubble for a special report on the country’s devastating earthquake, officials said on Wednesday.

The New Travel Weekly, a small lifestyle magazine, ran photos of sultry models in their underwear amid the debris in an issue that hit the stands on Monday – the first of three days of national mourning.

The press and publication department of the southwestern city of Chongqing, where the magazine was based, said it decided to close the magazine down for ‘rectification.’

The department said the magazine ‘seriously violated propaganda discipline and went against social morals’ and the report constituted an ‘extremely evil social influence.’

‘If the outcome of the rectification is satisfactory, it is possible to reopen the magazine,’ an employee of the press and publication department with the family name Cai told reporters.

‘After all, only part of the staff made the decision to print that shoot.

It wouldn’t be fair to just close it for good.’ (story)

Baidu.com blamed for spreading sexy Edison Chen photos

Posted by jtsmyth8 on February 20, 2008

China’s top Internet search engine has been censured for allegedly helping spread sexually explicit photos. The government-sponsored watchdog group is demanding both action and an apology from Baidu.com over the online availability of the photos, which feature several Hong Kong celebrities.

The photos appear to show actor Edison Chen and several female stars performing sex acts or in sexually suggestive poses.

They are widely available in Hong Kong, where the scandal has dominated the headlines for several weeks.

The watchdog group, called the Beijing Association of Online Media, praised other Chinese sites such as NetEase.com, Sina.com and Sohu.com for urging their users not to spread the photos. (story)
