3G iPhone selling well

Posted by jtsmyth8 on September 3, 2008

“DUE to overwhelming response, SingTel informed consumers on Monday that its initial shipment of the iPhone 3G is “almost exhausted”.” (story)

Looks like Singapore has many Apple fans. New and existing customers are signing up for contracts and on average are waiting up to 30 minutes to complete the process. Is this just a gadget fad? Reports from other countries regarding reception issues and spotty 3G performance was not enough to deter consumers from getting their hands on the phone. Data plans vary between 1GB and 3GB depending on the selected package. For those not lucky enough to get one analysts predict a new batch of phones should be available in 2 – 3 weeks.

SingTel to get iPhone by year end

Posted by jtsmyth8 on June 11, 2008

The latest version of the much-hyped iPhone unveiled by Apple boss Steve Jobs in the United States on Monday will be on sale here within the next few months, and probably at half the price of the original.

This will cheer Singapore’s phone and gadget fans, who are still unable to buy the original iPhone a year after its high-profile launch.

SingTel announced on Tuesday that it will be the first operator here to launch the new version, which is faster and boasts more features, but said it would only be on the shelves ‘later this year’.

In a statement, SingTel’s executive vice-president Quek Peck Leng said that the mobile operator is ‘pleased … to be the first mobile operator in Singapore to launch’ the device.

Apple had announced that buyers in 22 markets, including the United States and Australia, will get their chance to check out the iPhone 3G on July 11. (story)

Posted by jtsmyth8 on June 11, 2008

It wasn’t me, I swear! Besides, I don’t use my camera phone, the quality isn’t very good anyways.

“A Singapore man has been banned from owning a camera phone for a year after he was found guilty of secretly filming a woman in an airport toilet, a newspaper reported Tuesday.

Samuel Ong, 19, sneaked into a female toilet at Singapore’s Changi Airport earlier this year and used his camera phone to snap shots of a woman from under the cubicle door. The woman caught him and reported him to the police.” (story)

Monster sentenced to 26 yrs + 24 strokes

Posted by jtsmyth8 on January 25, 2008

A 29 year old man who repeatedly raped his live-in fiancee’s daughter was finally caught out after he used his camera-phone to take video of himself molesting the girl. On Friday, the man, a vegetable packer who has previous convictions for sexual offences, was put behind bars for 26 years and ordered to be caned the maximum 24 strokes.

He cannot be named to protect the identity of the girl, now aged 11 and a primary six pupil.

The High Court heard that the man met the girl’s mother in 2004 when she was going through a divorce from her second husband.

Later that year, they got engaged and he moved in with her and her two children.

The girl was first raped in the first half of 2006, when she was nine.

She was sleeping in her room, running a fever, when he woke her and raped her.

She was too frightened to tell anyone about the assault.

Subsequently, he raped her four more times, between May 2006 and July 2007. (story)
