Software piracy a big problem?

Posted by jtsmyth8 on October 21, 2008

Selling pirated software can be big business as well as big penalties. The most common titles are from Microsoft, Office, Windows. I’m sure you’ve spotted a few shop in Sim Lim Square selling illegal copies. Maybe you’ve even purchased a few. Microsoft is a big company, they can afford it right? Is software piracy a bigger problem than we think?

Billions of dollars in revenue are lost due to software piracy every year. File sharing web sites like bit torrent allow for users around the world to benefit from illegal software. The copyright issue spans across the globe and industries.

Despite large corporations efforts to eliminate piracy, hackers always seem to find a way around copy protection. Often new methods of copyright protection is cracked within a matter of hours. However savvy consumers have reported such shops. Often if the deal looks too good to be true then there must be a catch. Remember that money for a legit copy goes towards the development of new features and updates. If you like the software buy it, the real one, not the fake.

Chinese man dies after taking Power 1 Walnut sex drug

Posted by jtsmyth8 on April 8, 2008

Just say no to drugs. A pill is not going to make your pee pee big. If you have a small one, too bad. Find a small woman and learn to please her. It is not worth your life to have a big dick. Use a magnifier, pretend you have a big one. LOL!

“The illegal sexual-enhancement drug Power 1 Walnut has claimed its first fatality.

He was among the patients who developed serious adverse reactions after taking the made-in-China drug, said the Health Sciences Authority (HSA) on Monday.

The middle-aged local Chinese man was taken to hospital in a coma state in early March. Investigations found that he had taken Power 1 Walnut.” (story)

3 more charged in illegal sexual enhancement drug trade

Posted by jtsmyth8 on April 4, 2008

This just goes to show how desperate men are. Ladies! Go easy on us. Yes, we have small pee pees but we go down (you know what I mean). See?! So many men are dying to satisfy you hungry ladies, just give us a chance. We are so desperate we are risking our lives by buying cheap drugs from a street vendor. Don’t giggle, just say, “ooh, it’s soo big!”

“3 more men were charged in court on Thursday with peddling illegal sexual enhancement drugs after the authorities cracked down on the trade in February.

All three – Lee Teck Boo, Ong Nguk and Teo See Bong – were accused of selling Power 1 Walnut pills, which have caused at least 20 men to be hospitalised.

Although labelled to contain only natural herbal ingredients, the pills were found to be adulterated with two western medicinal ingredients – Glibenclamide, a potent anti-diabetic medication that can cause severe and life-threatening symptoms of very low blood sugar, and Sildenafil, an active ingredient in Viagra. Sildenafil is a potent drug that should only be taken under a doctor’s supervision.” (story)

Do you have an illegal licence plate?

Posted by jtsmyth8 on February 22, 2008

Giving a car a Continental touch with a number plate that resembles those used in the European Union might be all the rage, but it is, in fact, illegal. At least two number plate manufacturers have been importing the moulds for these plates directly from Europe, fonts and all, at the cost of up to $80,000.

But the EU number plates use letter and number fonts that are smaller than the Land Transport Authority requires them to be, and their colours might be against the rules, too.

For instance, letters and numbers on licence plates on Singapore registered cars must be 70 mm high and 50 mm wide. (story)

Apple makes legal threats against iPhone selling stores

Posted by jtsmyth8 on December 6, 2007

Next Christmas for sure, but not this one – if you hanker for a ‘legit’ iPhone, and have been checking out Sim Lim Square for it. That is because Apple, the maker of the cellphone popular in the United States and Europe, will only release it in Asia next year.

According to retailers, Apple theatened in an e-mail to go after them for illegally ‘unlocking’ parallel imported iPhones. The phones are unlocked by hacking into their software so that local SIM cards can be used.

Sim Lim Square retailers and even some online local sellers have stopped selling the gadget.

A retailer in Sim Lim Square said shops there, including his, received a warning e-mail from Apple about a month ago.

It threatened legal action should they continue to sell ‘hacked’ iPhones, which could make them liable for $1,000 per iPhone sold. (story)
