Less cabbies charged

Posted by jtsmyth8 on September 25, 2008

Ever since new fines were imposed last November cabby infractions have dropped significantly. Such penalties include a $500 fine, loss of 12 demerit points and a 4 week suspension. Looks like cabbies are getting the message. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) reported that 46 cabbies were charged last month, down from 81 the previous month.

Most cabbies are courteous and friendly. It’s only a handful that make the rest look bad. Looks like this initiative is working. Keep up the good work.

Foong Wen Jia: just a regular girl

Posted by jtsmyth8 on September 12, 2008

Check out this video. Make sure you watch the whole thing or at least see the bit at the end “embarrassing moment”. I kid you not I must have laughed so hard my stomach hurt. AH HA! So girls do fart! All silliness aside this is really comforting on a few levels. She’s just a regular girl! (Who happens to be beautiful too!) I’ll try to keep this in mind the next time I approach a hottie at a club.

Come on, be honest. We’ve all been there at one time for another. Gas just builds up sometimes and you happen to be in an awkward location where “letting it go” could be embarrassing. So you try and let up, and release it slowly but OOPS, there you go! You’ve done it, and it was a really loud one! Everybody heard it. No use in pretending it was the guy next to you. Hang your head in shame and quickly leave. Don’t worry someday you will look back and laugh about it.

Private matters should stay private

Posted by jtsmyth8 on September 9, 2008

I don’t know about you but some things you just shouldn’t do in public. Public displays of affection, too much skin, and more but this takes the cake. Let’s see, last month he got caught “trying to have sex with a park bench”, and now he got caught “pleasuring” himself on a bus, umm, did I miss anything? I don’t know what this says about some one’s mental state. I guess when you’re on tv you think you are entitled to pull a Pee Wee Herman because you think you are famous.

In other news there was a “mentally ill woman” who tried to strip and disrobe during the Beijing para Olympics. As you can imagine the Chinese government probably doesn’t believe the special Olympics deserves the same kind of security. Maybe it had something to do with a Tibet protest? Who knows maybe she had “Free Tibet” written on her chest and we just didn’t get to see it. Long story short, keep your clothes on kids, I don’t care what political message you have to share. If it’s important you should be able to get your message across “with” your clothes on.

That Sony laptop IS warm (it’s not just you)

Posted by jtsmyth8 on September 5, 2008

Have a Sony Vaio laptop? Notice how hot it is? Uncomfortably hot? It could be defective.

“Japan’s Sony Corp has launched a voluntary recall of 438,000 Vaio portable computers, citing a potential hazard that could cause the machines to overheat or possibly burn a user.” (story)

First exploding batteries and now faulty laptops. I’m beginning to lose faith the quality of the Sony brand. Rest assured, the Sony name no longer holds the same reputation it held 10 years ago. It used to be that their products were the best in performance and quality. That was the reason why you paid more for the brand but now more often you are seeing problems creep up. I think my next tv will be a Samsung, and my laptop will be Dell.

3G iPhone selling well

Posted by jtsmyth8 on September 3, 2008

“DUE to overwhelming response, SingTel informed consumers on Monday that its initial shipment of the iPhone 3G is “almost exhausted”.” (story)

Looks like Singapore has many Apple fans. New and existing customers are signing up for contracts and on average are waiting up to 30 minutes to complete the process. Is this just a gadget fad? Reports from other countries regarding reception issues and spotty 3G performance was not enough to deter consumers from getting their hands on the phone. Data plans vary between 1GB and 3GB depending on the selected package. For those not lucky enough to get one analysts predict a new batch of phones should be available in 2 – 3 weeks.
