How’s your English?

In all fairness, new immigrants should be expected to learn the local language as well. Singaporeans are accommodating and do their best to help foreigners and immigrants but this does not absolve them from doing their part. Learn the local language, don’t expect the locals to learn yours. You are, after all, in Singapore. English is not the first language here.

“Two-thirds of the respondents in the survey, which polled 1,200 Singaporeans between 15 and 39 years, said their standard of spoken English has improved in the last two years.

Many gave wanting to express better and be better understood as the main motivation for speaking better.” (story)
