Sally Ang Poh Choo jailed for offences against maid

Posted by jtsmyth8 on June 27, 2008

To teach her maid a lesson, finance officer Sally Ang Poh Choo used marker pens to draw lines on the Indonesian maid’s face. It was Ang’s way of punishing Miss Sri Hartuti Rokiman for not closing the front door properly while she was washing the family’s car parked in the front porch of the house in Eastwood Place off Bedok Road.

Miss Sri Hartuti, 26, ran away from her employers the next day and reported the matter to the police. A doctor found scratches and slight bleeding on her face. The maid had also asked a neighbour and her maid to take photographs of her scratches and bruises.

Ang, 44, a mother of two teenagers, 14 and 16, was jailed three weeks and fined $1,500 on Thursday for hurting her maid on five occasions over a two-month period. (story)

Posted by jtsmyth8 on June 27, 2008

I can’t see the good stuff, move the purse. I’m sure the photographer tried his best to get her as naked as possible. “I swear these photos won’t make it to the Internet” Boo! No boobies!

“With her modesty protected by a $50,000 Chanel leather clutch and a pair of jeans, MediaCorp artiste looks semi-nude as she posed for the cover shot in the latest issue of Chinese female magazine, Nuyou.

But there are some lines that even the well-respected veteran would not cross.

If you think she was not wearing a top in the picture, look again.” (story)

Siemens develops new desalination process

Posted by jtsmyth8 on June 23, 2008

Bucking convention, researchers have developed a way of producing drinking water from seawater – that is twice as efficent.

A team from Siemens Water Technologies on Monday received top honours and a $4million grant from the Environment & Water Industry Development Council (EWI).

The council threw a challenge to research institutes and companies last July to develop a desalination technique that used 50 per cent less energy than current methods.

‘It hasn’t been acheived before, that’s why it’s a challenge,’ said Professor Lui Pao Chuen, chairman of the EWI’s evaluation panel.

Siemens beat 35 other groups with its unique spin on desalination. (story)
