Singapore aims to be global leader for clinical trials

Posted by jtsmyth8 on December 19, 2007

In its bid to become a regional clinical trials powerhouse, has joined the Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP), which has 20,000 members in more than 60 countries. Getting the stamp of approval from this United States-based international organisation means that Singapore can tell the world that its clinical trial practices adhere to international ethical standards and patient welfare safeguards.

Also on the cards here is a new national body, the Academic Clinical Research Organisation, which will coordinate the later phases of clinical trials both here and in the region.

These trials test new drugs on humans.

Boosting Singapore’s clinical trials credentials is part of the country’s current biomedical research push to translate scientific discoveries in the laboratory into actual cures for patients. (story)
