Singapore Airlines takes delivery of superjumbo

Posted by jtsmyth8 on October 16, 2007

Like a proud father Chew Choon Seng, chief executive of Singapore Airlines took delivery on Monday of the first Airbus A380 superjumbo. The Airbus A380 is the world’s biggest passenger jet and should force the rival Boeing 747 into the history books. The 747, while a good plane, is vastly out dated.

The launch of the A380 severely cuts into Boeing’s 37 year monopoly of the commercial plane market. Boeing has been offering incentives to airlines over the past 2 years with the introduction of the 747-8, a version of the 747 to compete with the A380. But so far has only managed to secure one customer for the passenger version.
