Australian pilot fined for violating Singapore airspace

Posted by jtsmyth8 on April 1, 2008

An Australian pilot, whose intrusion into Singapore airspace caused fighter jets to scramble, was fined S$5,000 by a judge on Tuesday.
Rhys Henry Thomas, 59, had pleaded guilty a day earlier to flying without an airworthiness certificate.

Judge Danielle Yeow ordered him to pay the maximum fine, but he avoided a jail term of up to one year.

Singapore scrambled two F-16 fighter jets on January 22 to intercept Thomas’ Cessna – defence officials said that the plane did not have an approved flight plan. (story)
